Mojo Sweeps Series With Tascosa
In an error free game, Tascosa actually out hit Permian nine to eight, but the Panthers did a better job on the bases to claim the district win. Mojo went to work early. After retiring the Rebels in order, the Panthers posted three runs in the bottom half of the first inning. Manny Guerrero and Caden Bedrick drew free trips to occupy first and second. Tanner Adams doubled on a hard ground ball to left field to plate Guerrero. Aleck Villa followed with another double. Two more runs were added to give Mojo a 3-0 lead. Both teams added a run in the second frame, courtesy of a pair of base hits. Guerrero and Bedrick provided the spark, and Noey Brito added a double.
Tascosa converted three base hits into a run in the top of the third to trail 4-2. After getting hit by a pitch, Jared Carrasco scored on a sacrifice bunt by Taylor Sullivan to up the tally to 5-2 Mojo. After a silent fourth inning, the Rebels closed the gap in the top of the fifth. A hit batter and double setup the first run. A base hit to centerfield gave Tascosa its second run in the inning and made it a 5-4 ballgame. The Rebels would never get any closer.
Permian took a 6-4 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Villa led off with a walk and scored on an RBI single by Sullivan. The Panthers cushioned their lead in the sixth inning, when Bedrick ripped an RBI base hit into centerfield. Tascosa managed to place two runners on base in its last at-bat, but a pair of ground outs to the infield ended the game.
