Tascosa Experiences Wrath Of Mojo

Amarillo, TX – Permian uncorked two weeks of frustration in the Panhandle on Tuesday afternoon.  The 10-run mercy rule halted the Rebel punishment in the sixth inning, but not before Mojo slapped 20 runs on the board.

britoNoey Brito led the offensive assault for Mojo.  He went 4-for-5 at the plate, which included: an inside-the-park homerun, three RBI singles, and scoring three runs. Easton Hernandez also went yard, hammering out a two-run shot over the centerfield fence.  Permian recorded three five-run innings during the score-a-thon.  The Panthers put about three levels of hurt on Tascosa, beginning in the opening frame.  Permian sent eight batters to the plate, scoring four runs.  Caden Bedrick singled to left field and scored on Jared Carrasco’s RBI double.  Hernandez followed with a two-run RBI single., and Taylor Sullivan’s RBI single gave Mojo a quick 4-0 lead.

Permian added five more runs in the top of the second.  Brito led off with a well-executed bunt down the third base line.  Bedrick belted a one-out RBI single to right field to score Brito.  Tanner Adams and Aleck Villa hit a pair of doubles to make it 7-0.  Hernandez’s two-out two-run homer pushed the Mojo lead to 9-0.  The Panthers added another five runs in the top of the third.  Tascosa got on the scoreboard in the bottom half.  An infield error and homerun allowed the Rebels to score three to make it a 14-3 ballgame after three complete innings.

Each team added a run in the fourth frame.  For the first time all day, Permian came up empty in the top of the fifth inning.  Tascosa managed to produce three consecutive doubles in the bottom of the fifth to cut the Mojo lead to eight runs and force the game into another inning.

Sullivan and Isaiah Flores each contributed RBI singles, and Brito’s trip around the bases re-established the 10-run buffer.  Mojo now led 20-7.  The Rebels were able to plate a run on back-to-back base hits with two outs in the bottom of the inning.  A strikeout would end the game by mercy rule with Permian in possession of a 20-8 lopsided victory.
