Panthers Drop Crucial Game To OHS
Should Permian and Odessa High end up with matching records at the end of district, OHS will now have the advantage in the playoff tie-breaker scenario. The Bronchos took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. A free trip to first base and a base hit to right field setup the first two runs, when an infield error allowed two Bronchos to cross the plate. A one-out sacrifice flyball to centerfield afforded the runner to tag up and advance for the third run. The next batter struck out, but the damaged had been done. The Panthers tried to answer in the top of the second. Aleck Villa led off with a base hit to right field, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Easton Hernandez. Taylor Sullivan drew a walk to put two on with one out. Back-to-back strikeouts ended the scoring threat with the two stranded.
Permian was able to cut into the OHS lead in the top of the fifth inning. Isaiah Flores and Noey Brito hit back-to-back singles with one out. A sacrifice bunt by Manny Guerrero moved up the runners, and Flores scored on a passed ball to make it 3-1.
The Panthers made it 3-2 in the sixth frame. Tanner Adams got on base with the assistance of an OHS error. The Bronchos committed another error to green Adams to score, having Mojo trail by one run. Odessa High answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half behind two doubles and a single to extend the lead to 5-2.
Permian threatened in the top of the seventh but failed to add any runs to the scoreboard. Guerrero and Jared Carrasco drew consecutive walks to occupy first and second base with two outs. An infield ground ball to the shortstop was nabbed and the force out at second base ended the game.
