Mojo Run Rules Rebels In Five

Odessa, TX – The Panthers cranked out two powerful innings to dominate Midland Lee on Tuesday at McCanlies Field.  Permian handed the Rebels a 13-3 five-inning defeat to remain one game behind Frenship in the district standings.

gannMcCray Gann got the start for the Panthers.  The junior right-hander struck out seven, walked two, and gave up three runs in five innings on the mound.  Midland Lee scored the game’s first two runs in their first at-bat.  A pair of base hits, followed by a fielding error, was good for the game’s first run.  Another single and a sacrifice ground out gave the Rebels a 2-0 lead.  Permian responded with back-to-back base hits of their own in the bottom half of the inning.  Easton Hernandez led off and reached first on an infield error, but was thrown out trying to advance to second base.  Manny Guerrero and Tanner Adams got aboard with singles.  Both ended up stranded when a double play ended the effort.

The next two innings, Permian uncorked an assault that would send the Rebels home early.  Jared Carrasco got on base with a single to centerfield.  Taylor Sullivan got on base thanks to an error, and Isaiah Flores filled the bases on a hard hit shot to left field.  Noey Brito hammered a shot to right field that would plate three runs to give the Panthers a 3-2 lead.  Hernandez followed with a triple of his own for another run.  RBI singles by Adams and Carrasco extended the Mojo lead to 7-2.

The Rebels scored a run in the top of the third inning, but back came the Permian assault.  Flores led off with a double to left field, and Brito was hit by a pitch.  Flores was able to cross the plate, courtesy of a Lee error.  Mojo added another two runs with the help of back-to-back fielding errors.  Sullivan contributed and RBI double to up the tally to 13-3.

Lee showed signs of threatening in the top of the fourth frame.  The lead off batter drew a walk, and a hard hit double to left field put two on.  A hit batter would load the bases with no outs.  Gann struck out the next three Rebels to snuff out the threat.  No more runs were scored and Permian claimed a five-inning 10-run mercy rule over the district visitors.
