Midland High Repeats Seventh Inning Surge

Midland, TX – In the third and final meeting between Permian and Midland High, the game wasn’t be decided until the last at-bat at Zachery Field.  With the contest tied, the Bulldogs came up with the winning run  and 7-6 victory in the bottom of the seventh.

 

banks Midland High took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning with the assistance of three consecutive base hits and then another pair of singles two batters later.  Permian got one of the runs back in the top of the second.  Aleck Villa led off with a single and eventually made his way around the bases and stole home.  The Bulldogs added another two runs in the bottom half of the inning.  Teo Banks took over pitching duties for the Panthers and got Mojo out of the inning.  The junior right-hander finished the game striking out three and walking three, while limiting MHS to two runs.  Unfortunately, Midland High would take a 5-1 lead after two complete innings.

 

Two runners got on base, both by walk, in the third and fourth innings.  The rest of the batters were retired in order.  Permian was able to make some headway in the top of the fifth frame.  Taylor Sullivan led off with a single, and Easton Hernandez would plate the run on an RBI triple to right field.  Noey Brito followed with an RBI base hit to cut the Midland High lead to 5-3.  The Panthers were now poised to make their move.

 

Aleck Villa led off in the top of the six with a base tap to left field.  Hernandez got on courtesy of an error, but Mojo scored a run on the play.  Brito was hit by a pitch to put two aboard with two outs.  Manny Guerrero drew a walk to load the bases.  Jared Carrasco hit a hard grounder to left field to give Permian a one-run lead.  The Bulldogs re-knotted the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice flyball to Jayden Salcido in left field.

 

The Panthers were retired in order in the top of the seventh.  Back-to-back base hits to centerfield was all Midland High needed to reclaim the lead and take a 7-6 victory.  Permian suffered yet another district loss at the hands of the Bulldogs in the seventh inning.
