Mojo Hands San Angelo Central Shutout
Tuesday, May 01, 2018 04:19

SAN ANGELO - In a non-district game originally slated for last month, Permian took it to San Angelo Central in a 5-0 whitewashing of the Bobcats on Tuesday at Donsky Field.  The tune-up game readies the Panthers for the state playoff run that begins this weekend.

yandrichSenior pitcher Peyton Hutson retired six of the seven Bobcat batters in the first two innings, four by way of strikeout. Sophomore Tyler Ramage took the hill for two more innings. Manny Guerrero and Noey Brito worked through the next two frames on the mound, and Christian LaChance closed out the seventh.  He also dished out a pair of strikeouts.

Mojo bettered Central ten hits to four at the plate, while recording another error-free game in the field. Permian got on the scoreboard in the second frame. Daniel Enriquez got on base on an error, and Isaiah Flores advanced him to second on sacrifice bunt. Daniel Yandrich belted out an RBI single to right field, allowing Enriquez to cross the plate.

The Panthers loaded the bases in the top of the third, but were unable to cash in a single run. Guerrero was hit by pitch for a free trip to first. Christian Tschauner and Tanner Adams followed with a pair of base hits, but Guerrero was caught trying to steal home. Caden Bedrick walked to reload the bases. Back-to-back strikeouts left all three runners stranded.

Permian made it a 2-0 game in the fifth inning. Tschauner drew a walk, and Adams added a base hit. Both were thrown out on the bases, but a pair of triples by Bedrick and Aleck Villa gave Mojo a two run lead.

The Black Pack Attack put the game on ice in the top of the seventh. Guerrero led off with a single to left field. Bedrick got aboard on an error. Villa sent an RBI single to centerfield to make it 3-0, but Mojo wasn't finished. Enriquez walked to load the bases, and Flores capped off the scoring with a two-run RBI to dispose of the Bobcats with a 5-0 shutout win.

The Panthers start their post-season run against El Paso Socorro in the Bi-District Round of the State 6A playoffs on Friday and Saturday in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
