Permian Thumps Tascosa, Continues Win Streak
Friday, April 27, 2018 12:41

AMARILLO - Permian ended the district schedule on a four-game win streak, after handing Amarillo Tascosa a 9-1 shellacking on Friday.  With the victory, the Panthers secured second place in District 2-6A.

floresSenior Seth Higdon got the start on the mound and picked up the win, pitching the complete game.  He recorded eight strikeouts, while giving up four hits and limiting the Rebels to one run.  Isaiah Flores turned in a solid batting effort, going 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a single, and he also scored a run.

The Panthers got the game's first run in the top of the second inning. Aleck Villa got on base and advanced to second on a Tascosa error. Higdon followed and grounded into a fielder's choice, which allowed Villa to cross the plate.  Permian collected another run in the fourth frame on an RBI single to left field by Flores to make it 2-0.

Christian Tschauner led off in the fifth with a base hit to left field to continue the assault on the Rebels.  Caden Bedrick scored Tschauner on a one out RBI single to centerfield.  After Villa sent a shot to right field to post runners on the corners, a double steal upped the tally as Bedrick stole home for a 4-0 lead.  The Rebels still had no answer in front of their hometown crowd.

Higdon led off the sixth frame with a free trip to first base after being hit by a pitch.  That would be converted into another Mojo run when Flores doubled to left field.  A sacrifice ground ball by Tschauner scored Flores to give the Panthers a 6-0 lead.  Tascosa prevented a shutout with their only run in the bottom of the inning.

The Black Pack Attack added three more runs in the seventh inning to claim a 9-1 victory over the Rebels.  Permian finishes the district schedule with an 8-7 record, a mark good enough for second place in 2-6A.  Frenship takes the title as District Champions, while Midland Lee finishes third and Odessa High gets fourth.  Midland High and Amarillo Tascosa failed to qualify and will sit at home this post-season.

The Panthers will play El Paso Socorro in the Bi-District Round of the State 6A playoffs.  Unofficially, I expect the meeting to be in Pecos or Van Horn, but that is speculative at this time.
