Permian Nets Solid Win Over Odessa High
Tuesday, April 17, 2018 01:03

ODESSA - Going into the seventh inning, Permian held a one-run lead against Odessa High.  The Panthers slapped three more runs on the board to claim a 6-2 district victory over the Bronchos at Pressly Field on Tuesday afternoon.

ramageSophomore pitcher Tyler Ramage got the start on the hill for the Panthers and turned in a solid performance.  He struck out six batters, walked two, and held the Bronchos to two runs.  Ramage pitched his first complete seven inning game as a varsity starter and had a supporting defense that went error-free through the contest.

Permian opened the game with junior left fielder Manny Guerrero drawing a walk and junior designated hitter Tanner Adams singling to left field to put runners on first and second base, but both were left stranded.  Odessa High converted a walk and pair of base hits into the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning.

The Panthers battled back and tied the game in the top of the third.  Sophomore Isaiah Flores led off with a base hit, and Caden Bedrick, also a sophomore,  took a free trip to first after getting hit by a pitch.  Adams followed with a one-out sacrifice ground out to plate Flores to even the score.  The Bronchos regained the lead on a walk and two hard hit balls to the outfield.  Ramage handed out the third strikeout of the inning to end the frame with Permian now trailing 2-1.

Mojo would re-knot the game in the fourth inning on a Taylor Sullivan RBI single to centerfield.  The Panthers took the lead for good in the fifth frame on an RBI ground-rule double by Adams.  Ramage and the Permian defensive gloves silenced the Bronchos and kept them off of the scoreboard.  OHS was retired three-up three-down in the fourth, fifth, and again in the sixth inning.

The Black Pack Attack put a pad on their lead in the top of the seventh frame.  Adams led off with a bomb to right centerfield that earned him a two-bagger.  Freshman Aleck Villa hit a flyball to left field that was misplayed to put two aboard.  Nate Kizziar slapped a hard hit ground ball to left field to plate Adams to up the tally to 4-2.  Sullivan put the exclamation point on the game when he blasted a two-run RBI double to left centerfield for the third Mojo run of the inning.  Permian now sat on a 6-2 lead going into the bottom of the seventh.  Adams finished the game batting 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a base hit.  He was responsible for knocking in two runs and scoring a run.

Down to their last at-bat, Odessa High flew out to junior outfielder Christian "No Fly Zone" Tschauner before getting a runner on with a ground ball.  A pop out gave the Bronchos two outs, and Ramage struck out the next batter to end the game.  Mojo will look to duplicate today's effort on Friday in front of a home capacity crowd at McCanlies Field.  First pitch is at 4:30 p.m.
