Midland Lee Wiggles Past Permian In Tenth
Thursday, April 13, 2017 03:54

MIDLAND - Midland Lee scored four runs in the third inning, but Permian chipped away and tied the game 4-4 in the seventh.  It took three extra innings before the Rebels pushed the deciding run across the plate in the bottom of the tenth.  After a double play fair ball down the third base line was deemed foul, a bloop single fell into shallow left centerfield for a 5-4 Mojo district loss at Ernie Johnson Field.

arevaloAfter two scoreless innings, Lee managed to load the bases in the bottom of the third. A walk gave the Rebels the first run, and a pair of back-to-back singles resulted in a four-run inning. Lee led 4-0 after three complete innings.

The Panthers cut that lead in half in the top of the fourth frame. Daniel Enriquez led off with a walk to set up Tyson Banks's homerun shot over the left field fence. Permian notched another run on the board in the fifth inning to close the lead to one. Hector Arevalo led off with a double to right field. A sacrifice fly would green light Arevalo to make it a 4-3 ballgame.

Mojo was able to tie the game in the top of the seventh. Arevalo got on base with a base hit to centerfield. Tanner Adams followed with a double to post runners on second and third base. Banks sent a sacrifice fly to deep center to allow Arevalo to tag up and score. Opportunity was there to add more runs, but a popped up foul ball and strikeout left two runners stranded at second and third.

After two scoreless extra innings, Permian was able to put two runners on in the top of the tenth. A double play and strike out ended the at-bat. Three consecutive walks in the bottom half filled the bases for the Rebels. Disaster struck as Lee's Adam Becker provided an RBI bloop single for the deciding run. Just one pitch earlier, Becker dribbled a ball down the third base line. It was fielded in fair territory by Rhett Bratcher, which threw home for the force out. Catcher Taylor Sullivan sent the ball down to first base to complete the double play. The home plate umpire interrupted the action, calling the hit a foul ball... The next pitch ended the game.
