Frenship Hands Mojo Setback In 3-2 Loss
Friday, March 31, 2017 09:04

WOLFFORTH - After battling to a 2-2 tie through four innings, Permian watched Frenship score a run in the fifth to be the difference in a 3-2 decision at Tiger Stadium on Friday.  The Panthers committed three fielding errors in the District 2-6A loss.

kizziarPermian opened the contest with a pair of runs to take an early 2-0 lead. Seth Higdon took the mound and handed Frenship a goose egg in the bottom of the first frame. The Tigers matched the score in the bottom half of the second when they hit back-to-back doubles with two outs, and the addition of a Mojo fielding error knotted the game at 2-2.

The Panthers were able to load the bases in the top of the third, but failed to add to the scoreboard. Tanner Adams and Mitch Riddle drew walks, and Nate Kizziar singled to right field. A pair of ground outs and a flyball to left field ended the scoring opportunity. Mojo limited the Tigers to a base hit and the game remained tied after three complete innings. It was a quick fourth inning with neither team scoring. The Panthers committed another two errors, but the Tigers were unable to take advantage of the Mojo miscues.

Permian batters were retired in order in the fifth, but Frenship managed to break the tie in the bottom half. With one out and runners on second and third, the Tigers tagged up on a pop-up to take a 3-2 lead. The sixth inning saw a total of seven batters between the two teams and the Tigers clung to the one run lead after six complete innings.

Tanner Sullivan hit a one-out single to left field to get on base in the top of the seventh frame. Adams drew a walk to put two aboard. A ground out by Riddle put runners on the corners with two outs. Easton Hernandez followed with a ground out to first base to end the game with Permian on the short end of a 3-2 decision.  Higdon went the distance on the hill and struck out six while giving up no free trips to first.

Permian and Frenship will play again for the third and final meeting between the two squads on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at McCanlies Field.  The Panthers will need this game to stay in the playoff hunt.
